    Episodes 1-7

Now that this show is on Crunchyroll, I just watched through the first seven episodes, and I must say that this show really cracks me up not being afraid to make fun of itself and doing all sorts of self-deprecating humor. It starts off the girls going to Akihabara and totally approaching the whole bonus item aspect wrong. Then it's building up a Megazord out of Haganes, but that was a disaster in the making. Then everybody artificially inflates their download number insisting that everybody does it, and then the show looks at things 70 years after launch. Even while taking a break from promotion, they still have a drive going by decreasing the steam with increasing download numbers at the hot spring. Then it's a Saber cosplay, but Tsubaki has chosen to cosplay as Sakura Shinguji instead.

And for today's episode, Chris and Nanaka build a Hagane together, and the other girls think that there's something sexual going on between those two. In the end, they promote themselves, and while building that thing was a success, the way it was showcased fails big time as some guys playing cards got blown up in its path of destruction.

So with that, I was planning on watching this show if it got streamed, and now it's finally happening. The characters certainly are an amusing bunch, so this will be added to the watchlist.

      Re: Episodes 1-7

I love how this show is so up-front about the fact it's being made to promote a smartphone game. The OP every episode seems to suggest the common pretense of a story about the mecha featured in the game, but then they immediately shatter that pretense and literally just promote the game. But they do it all kinds of hilarious ways, and like how it's actually kind of cynical at times too on both the anime and game making sides. For instance, on the former, writing off the "orchestra" part of the title because instruments are difficult to animate and people are going to get annoyingly picky about them. And on the latter, about how smartphone games are shortlived and go out of service (love where they took that one).

I think my favorite girl is Masha. I like a tsundere ojousama, fun as the tsukkomi to some of the antics, and sometimes even the least gay girl is best (and amusingly questionable why she is since the blank-slate protagonist is of course blank-slatish to the point of being a joke: you can rename him from Chris). Though they end up getting the most yuri with Masha in the hot springs episodes anyway. Kako is extreme, but to the point of fun rather than annoyance.

        Episode 8

Instead of more promotion, two girls make a visit to Irodori and find just how great a place it is. Yukari sure did get carried away by everything going on there seeing that she just saw the flyer where Hagane pilots are wanted. Of course, they just don't realize what's going on behind the scenes.

Hah, they did a whole episode featuring vocaloid girls. Really expanding the kind of "advertising" they're doing. :D "We'll have to use our beautiful voices to make money doing BL book readings." Such is the life of a vocaloid.

            Episode 9

Now the focus is on the guys and they made a point that almost all of the viewers are guys, so they are trying to market their game by making the girls stand out. But come to the conclusion that they are lacking in sex appeal, and those girls are none too pleased about them saying that. Pretty bizarre how all of that turned out.

Hah, I love how the camera disapproves as soon as the guys announce the episode is centering around them. They all know know the target audience of this show. :D And so they immediately get to discussing the waifu appeal of their girls. I like how in the end, Chris is not a bro to them to all. The girls find out about the meeting, and of course are ready to murder them. Heh.

                Episode 10

The next promotion attempt for Hagane Orchestra is an actual orchestra through a high school drama where the characters form a concert band at Hagane Academy. Kureha came up with this idea, and she's being quite delusional. Nevertheless, that was another funny attempt at letting everybody know about this game, all while making use of the Orchestra part of the title.

                  Episode 11

The next attempt at advertisement is to do a doujinshi, and these girls are surprisingly good at drawing. Their work sells out pretty quickly at the expo, so that idea worked like a charm. Except that it did squat to bring attention to the game as it took five expos for them to realize that. That was pretty funny to see those girls mistaking doujinshi for being something that's way too inappropriate, but only a small portion of them actually fall into those categories.

                    Re: Episode 11

Heh, I just knew the initial thoughts on doujinshi would turn to it being a gay R-18 thing. With Masha and Kako, all the bases are covered. Once the expo starts, I like how the guys brutally enforce the rules against the more overzealous otaku via mech. You've all been warned of your ethical slip-ups, overnighter, venue runners, and malicious photographers! Good taste in cosplayers there, though. Shibuya Rin! Rem!

                      Episode 12 (Finale)

And so, the last attempt at promotion comes in the form of a movie trailer. The characters are getting into their Haganes and using them to go to war. And they are brought together like an orchestra, which explains the show's name. That was pretty funny what was said at the end when they should have been doing this from the start. Nevertheless, they did what they needed to do in order to promote this game, but the fact that they failed so hard so many times is hilarious.

Overall, this is pretty enjoyable for a short as the characters are the great, and the comedy is hilarious. This show likes to make fun of itself, and I give them credit for them not taking things seriously. That said, it has the typical shortcomings of shorts, and the animation quality is particularly bad with the rainbow tint. But for just five minutes a week, this show was well worth my time.

Hah, and here they try to do an episode around that pretense too, with it ending up being a trailer. And then they wonder if they should have done that in the first place to advertise the game. Nah guys, this parody stuff is much better. :D Fun little series overall.
