    Episode 1

    He knows nothing but war.

It begins with Badr and Esra giving birth to Sinbad, but Badr is on his way towards his death bed there as his body has been messed up quite a lot by the wars that he fought. While he's a hero based on his actions, he's a traitor to others, with the last straw being that he helped out Darius, who happens to be a Reim spy, and he was forced to take action when Darius was about to murder Sinbad. And from there, Sinbad's anti-war mentality was developed and would be pushed to the extreme from that point on as the Parthevians are all about wars and harsh living conditions. That was just brutal the way Badr was living and now he's out of his misery, but that means Sinbad has to shoulder a lot of burden. That's an amazing start to this prequel.

To boldly go where no man has gone before, and back.

Parthevia sure is a messed up place and Sinbad has found the ultimate way to dodge this military draft, and that is to go and conquer a dungeon, one where thousands of people have tried and died in doing so. But seeing that Sinbad is holding onto his pacifist ways that there was no way he was not going fight this war, which has rubbed the royal family and the soldiers the wrong way. Not many would have dared to oppose, but Sinbad is quite the brave one and seeing that he has a chip on his shoulder after what happened to Badr, it's no wonder why.

        Episode 3

        The impossible has just happened.

It's no wonder why nobody has conquered Baal's dungeon as the monsters there are extremely menacing, and the the dungeon boss is especially powerful. But of course, Sinbad is unfazed by that and sets out to change the world. Dragul (who Sinbad names Drakon and would become something much different in the Magi series) foolishly entered in order to stop Sinbad not realizing the danger he was putting himself in, but he was saved by Sinbad and taught a lesson that swordsmanship is not the be all, end all. So with that, Sinbad has Baal's powers, and sets off on his adventure. I wonder what's next for Dragul seeing that this delivered quite a big blow to his morale to the point of making him his mortal enemy.

          Episode 4

His warrior pride has gone cold.

Sinbad sets off on his first adventure to the north where it is cold, , and for some reason those people aren't freezing despite the way they are dressed. Sinbad's first would-be crewmate is Hina, and he's someone who needs to kill one of those powerful sea creatures to prove that he's a warrior. But he nearly dies in doing so and Sinbad had to kill it to save him and his sister Pipirika. And so here comes Sinbad having been in a similar situation, and Hina goes off to the dungeon to prove himself. There's a common connection between Sinbad and Hina, and that was nicely developed there, and as if that weren't enough, Dragul just doesn't know when to quit. Next time, Hina goes on his dungeon capturing quest.

There's only one worthy of being king.

So it takes being like a king in order to truly capture a dungeon seeing that while they may have the strength to defeat the dungeon boss, they need to have the conviction in order to gain the guardian's powers. So to test everybody, that meant catching a cat, which is only possible to do by working together, and Sinbad sure knows how to talk there. But now, Falan is up to no good having released the black rukh from those guys to form a giant monstrosity. Sinbad sure does have his work cut out for him seeing that he considers them a comrade and by that, they are not left behind.

              Episode 6

              He's now Sinbad the Merchant.

I figured that the kid assassin was a familiar face, and indeed it is Jafar. He could have ended up like the Disney version of the character, but thanks to Hina being able to pierce that monster in the right spot, and Sinbad reaching out to him that he was able to overcome his evil self and trust Sinbad. That was a great way to develop everybody there as Sinbad takes the next step in building Sindria with Drakon, the newly-named Hinahoho, Jafar, and those other two who he saved from the black rukh monster, all while Drakon is turning against his brother Barbarossa, and Falan is up to no good. With that, I'm through the OVA portion of this series.

Gotta learn the tricks of the trade.

Sinbad has arrived in Reim to set up shop, but he needs to join the merchants union in order to do so. Just when they found an opportunity to make big bucks with Harun buying all that merchandise, it turns out to be a scam as he is simply reselling everything at inflated prices. But instead of taking his anger out on Harun, he asks him to help him to become a union member as it requires a recommendation from a union member and a fee, which he is responsible for raising during the month he is away, and found the solution in sharing his dungeon capturing adventures. Sinbad is quite resourceful there, and certainly this Harun guy isn't as shady as he seems even though he totally fleeced Sinbad and company. It certainly helps that he has such great power, but he found a way to take advantage of it.

                  Share your adventures.

So Harun is actually Rashiid, the king of Balbaad, and after seeing Sinbad's resourcefulness and achievements, he decides to make him a legalized member of the merchant union despite not raising the required money to pay the membership fee during the month he was away. While he is now in the union, he needs to make his business marketable, and he does just that by staging his performance that he did on the streets at the amphitheater, and it was such a huge hit that there was a long line to watch him perform. Of course, it helps that he has proof that he captured the dungeon in his sword. While that was happening, Jafar had some issues with Hinahoho's son as he got in the cage with a ferocious monster. Anyway, Sinbad got quite an extravagant shop there seeing that he just entered the union, and now he's off to another land. That was yet another great performance by Sinbad always finding a way to get through to the masses.

                    Episode 9

                    No outsiders allowed.

Next up, Sinbad goes to Sasan where he is out to establish trade relationships with a country that is sheltered from the outside world and knights there train to serve their king within the land for life. Mystras wants to go out and explore the world, but that's condition on him beating the king Darius, who is adamant about not letting anybody outside. Of course, to do that, he has to beat Darius, but he's no match for someone with a dungeon's power, so it's up to Sinbad to step in. Talk about a kingdom that's so stuck up on traditions and the dogma seeing that those things are just there for reasons that really don't serve much of a purpose. Sinbad has a trick up his sleeve, and it will be interesting to see how he will beat Darius.

                      Episode 10

Don't just use power, wear it.

Darius thought that he had it all figured out, but he couldn't have been more wrong. Sinbad knows about the Djinn Equip and shows Darius that there's no way he could win without it. So after showing just how dangerous the power is, Darius finally allows Mystras his freedom and Sasan has entered into the Sindria Alliance. It's one thing to have the power of the Metal Vessel, but it's another to actually know how to use it to its full potential, which is exactly what Sinbad does here. Sinbad never fails to amaze when it comes to negotiating.

                        Episode 11

They've fallen, but can they get back up?

Next stop for Sinbad is Artemyra, a country of only women where Pisti ends up joining the party. Right off the bat, they get on the queen's bad side, and as punishment, Sinbad, Mystras, and Jafar get tossed into a valley where they don't even have their clothes, much less Sinbad's Metal Vessel. But thanks to Jafar and his assassin training, they were able to feast off of snakes to survive. That was just cruel of Mira to treat those boys like that. Being thrown into the canyon was bad enough, but stripping them naked on top of that is just excessive. But despite the situation, those guys still managed to do some crazy things.

                          Carried by the meat.

That's a rather bizarre way to go collecting gems by dropping meat into the valley, but that's Sinbad's ticket out of the valley. Just wait until a large enough piece was dropped so that they can be carried off above the cliff. As it turns out, there are dudes in this country and it's just that they are the ones doing household chores whereas it is generally the other way around. And then Sinbad challenges Mira to another battle, this time with both fighters using Djinn Equip, and Sinbad's tactics are ingenious once again as it got to a point where an attack by Mira means damage to her country. It wasn't easy, but Sinbad got what he was looking for here, and that experience in the valley sure did humble him. One more episode left, and so far only four of the eight generals have been recruited with Yamraiha, Masrur, Sharkkan, and Drakon left to go for a potential second season.

                            Episode 13 (Finale)

                            A legend is lurking.

After emerging victorious in that battle, Sinbad has finally convinced the queen to become partners, all while learning about the Magi, which is what Yunan is that he met when he captured his first dungeon. That was a nice conversation there, and it goes to show that the queen has been too arrogant and stuck-up to realize that there's a whole lot she's missing out. Then seeing Sinbad and Mystras react the way they did with those guys out to flirt with them is pretty funny. So with that, Parsine is brought into his company while Pisti tags along for the ride. That's four generals down with Judar and the remaining generals shown there at the end. That's a nice way to end this and set the stage for a potential second season as there are still a lot more adventures remaining.

Overall, this show has been pretty enjoyable and it does an excellent job in portraying and developing Sinbad's character. The dungeon capturing adventures are brilliantly done to set the stage for great growth in Sinbad, while I like that the way Sinbad establishes partnerships with other countries is changed up to keep things fresh and up to date with Sinbad's evolution as a merchant. As for problems I had with this show, the biggest one is that there's plenty of comedy in odd places, and there are many instances where it fails. That said, the prequel does an excellent job in making Sinbad into the guy he is during the main Magi series and I'm hoping that there's a second season to see things through to the end when his kingdom is created.
