    OVA Episode 2

    Worried for nothing.

It turns out that the rumors began when crew members from other fleets were looking to recruit some of the members, and then it went spreading like wildfire. Koko went far as to petition to not have the Harekaze crew dissolved and setting up a festival to draw in people to sign the petition. It initially wasn't effective, but once Mike showed up that turned into a fun time for everybody seeing that they don't know for sure if this is their last time together or not. So the time comes, and inside the envelope is a present for everybody as they get a brand new ship equipped with stuff from the old ship that was lifted from the bay. So with that, the journey continues on the Harekaze II.

That sets the stage for a possible second season as while one adventure came to an end, another one is beginning. Those girls sure let a simple denied request turn into something that drives the crew paranoid, but it ends with everybody still together with a new and improved ship. There certainly is room for more story to be told as there's the whole mystery of those mind-controlling rats that was never explained, and in particular the one responsible for letting these things cause trouble in the seas, as well as the potential conspiracy of Maritime Safety seeing that they have done some pretty suspicious things.

    OVA Episode 1

    What's inside the envelope?

Poor Koko is getting freaked out over the contents inside the envelope that was given to the Harekaze's crew that they are not supposed to open until the designated time. Koko is fearing the worst in that their unit gets dissolved and reassigned to other crews. At least Wilhelmina will be there for her no matter what happens, but nevertheless it is quite an anxious time for Koko. It has been a month since the crew returned and apparently the Harekaze has been salvaged and is undergoing repairs. But of course, everything is just rumor until the time everybody can open up the envelopes. Those rumors sure are getting to her head, and it will be interesting to see what is written inside the envelope in the second OVA episode that's coming a month from now.

I just knew we were going to see the Spee girls returning to help and being awesome. Though not just them: it's everyone the crew of Harekaze has fought to help over the course of the series.

There was a sense of danger and tension from start to finish, but ultimately it never went to a dark place. There was seemingly no plot behind the virus that caused all of the conflict. And we end it with a nice emotional reunion of Misaki with Moka, with no casualties on their hands. Well, we do have one bittersweet one, with the Harekaze ship itself sinking after they finally made it to safety. They give it an honorable send-off.

So Misaki gets permission from the principal to carry out her reckless plan of stalling the Musashi to let reinforcements arrive to take over. Mei had quite a lot of fun there, launching all torpedoes at once. They buy time, but the result is the Harekaze taking one hell of a beating with the engine room flooding, fires erupting in different places along with extensive damage to their weapon firing parts. They survive till reinforcements arrive which include the Germans' Spee. Mii-chan is here to help. And this leads to the second part of their extremely reckless plan – boarding the Musashi.

That rash driving though. They banged the Harekaze straight into the Musashi to stop it. They were like, "neko this ship! It's going down anyway, might as well blow it up". The reunion was quite good. And in the end, they reach solid land. But after that beating the Harekaze took due to the recklessness, the ship which supported Misaki and her crew all this time sinks. It didn't feel off at all. Kinda like giving the show a proper ending. The dangerous journey at sea is now over, something like that.

Overall this has been a good show. They went full serious where needed and kept the moe moe stuff out of the way when serious. It had the cute girls doing stuff aspect but those didn't feel bad at all. It took the ships stuff quite seriously which was good. There was an actual sense of danger here as things weren't all fun and games. They really were in danger out at sea and episode 11 perfectly showed that with Misaki being unable to decide whether to evacuate or go in. My biggest complaint, apart from the drops in the artwork at times, is the development that mutant rodents are causing the everyone to go wild. That honestly felt stupid. It would have been better if it was something like someone is trying to give the Bloomers a bad name and have them wreak havoc here and there. In fact, anything would have been better than mutant rats. That being said, the ship battles were always exciting to watch. The girls putting Misaki's plans to action to stop ships was cool. It was a pretty good show to watch. It it weren't for that stupid development it would have been better.

    Episode 12 (Finale)

    A salute to the Harekaze.

That was great to see all the school ships that Mike and company saved to join forces in saving the Musashi. The Harekaze suffered some catastrophic damage there, but it's thanks to those other ships that they were able to board the Musashi and turn everybody back to normal, all while Mike and Moka finally reunite. That was some nice action there in the final battle concluding with the Harekaze side swiping the Musashi. And then that scene at the end with the Harekaze sinking is a really emotional end to this show. But it went down a winner in its final battle. That was a nice way to end this show, although there are still questions about those rats that remain unanswered.

Overall, this show is pretty engaging for the characters, the action, and the atmosphere. The story concept is great, and the whole idea of girls on battleships certainly made for an interesting show. Individually, the episodes are nice to watch. But putting all of the things together, this show is really lacking. In particular, the biggest problem is that the show got pretty repetitive with the only things really changing are the ship and the method of approach, all while the whole story about the rats could have played a bigger role than it actually did. In particular, I would have liked to have seen what exactly the deal was with those rats other than just their origins seeing that there's some conspiracy going on that was never explained. In any case, it's a decent show for girls and action, but the story could have been much better than this.

    Re: Episode 11

So after getting fixed, the Harekaze is to assist the Bloomer squad in taking down the Musashi. But the Musashi turns out to be too strong and the Bloomers get eliminated. This forces the principal to take charge and take down the Musashi herself. Gonna be so cool seeing her take down the ship especially after that story told about her.

Misaki doesn't know what to do. She wants to help out Moka-chan but at the same time doesn't want to risk the safety of her crew because taking down a ginormous ship is obviously pretty damn dangerous especially after seeing that that ship just took out a four strong Bloomer squadron. Was pretty nice seeing how much Misaki cares about her crew whom she thinks of as family. She doesn't want to put her family in any more danger than she already has but she still can't abandon her childhood friend. The crew then shows their support for Mike and Shiro-chan tells Mike that she'll be her mayonnaise lol. Coincidentally, Sakamoto Desu Ga had a similar thing in this week's episode as Hayabusa was told to complete what his father lacked much like how Shiro-chan is completing what Misaki lacks. Cool.

Now the Harekaze is going to do something super reckless. Taking on a ginormous ship with seemingly unlimited ammo of all sorts, which has just taken down pros is as reckless as it gets. They will probably get assistance from the principal's ship once they go in and then also get quite the scolding for taking on this dangerous ship despite clear orders to evacuate having been issued.

    Episode 11

    Where there's a will, there's a way.

After the Equator Festival, the Harekaze is sailing again, all while the Musashi is getting ready to lay waste to Tokyo. With the heavy artillery on the ship, the Blue Mermaids are totally helpless. Seeing the widespread destruction has gotten Mike down. Meanwhile on the Musashi, Moka and company have sheltered themselves from the infected crewmates. The Harekaze has finally come into contact with the Musashi, and Mike is ready to face it head-on after her crewmates showed their support for her as a captain.

This was all about setting the stage for the climax seeing that while the crewmates are all fired up and ready to finish the journey, Mike wasn't feeling into it, and seeing the Musashi laying waste only made things worse. But the friendships she established with her crew and Moka are what save the day, and seeing that they have developed quite a lot since their first encounter that this time, it gets through. So with that, there's one more episode left with the showdown against the Musashi to finish this.

Pretty uneventful episode here. Nothing happened at all. The comedy was also so so for most of the part. It had some cuteness, but not too much to make this episode worthwhile. The only thing to come out of it was Kuro officially getting over her unhealthy Mashiro obsession along with it being decided that the Harekaze will take part in the Bloomer's mission to take back the infected ships. They'll probably come across the Musashi which is headed towards the Philippines for some reason.

    Episode 10

As they go south, things are going north.

The Harekaze is undergoing repairs and seeing that they just crossed the equator that this calls for a celebration to pass the time. So they have an equatorial festival to mark the occasion where the ship is decorated like a summer festival, and the girls are doing all sorts of things like a theatrical play, a comedy routine, and even a sumo wrestling tournament that Kuro wins easily. And Minami comes out to sing a song and let everybody know that she's only 12.

That was a relaxing episode there considering that the girls have been through so much, but their biggest obstacle is yet to come in the form of the Musashi. Those girls sure know how to party even in a place like that. So with that, there are two more episodes left, five more ships that still have been taken over, and the Blue Mermaids have their work cut out for them, all while there is still the matter of explaining what the motive is for all of those rats that have caused a lot of trouble on the seas.

Nice episode. I hope Mina will be able to get back on the Harekaze as transfer or foreign exchange student.

I am able to overlook technical issues with shows like this (you have to to be able enjoy most of them). However, eight torpedoes all missed and Spee didn't even evade at all. They really need to upgrade their torpedo arsenal. On the "realistic" side, they did take some damage. I imagine this will affect them when they have to take on the Musashi, which should be the climax of the show (assuming one cour).

So the Spee is located and they plan on raiding the Spee to save the crew. The Spee is a little bigger than the Harekaze and has more armour and more firepower along with being fast. It's pretty damn dangerous for a little Harekaze. But they go ahead with the plan to first immobilize it and then get on and injecting the antibodies into each girl. But the Spee doesn't evade any attack and keeps going in a straight line which forces a change of tactics. Misaki wishes to go out despite being captain, leaving the ship to Shiro-chan. Shiro-chan accepts because she probably believes in Misaki's judgement more now.

The raid was pretty cool. Megane girl attacking everyone and taking them on with water guns was cool. And lab coat girl injecting everyone in the butt. They dispatched the nekos to take care of the rat infestation and the fat cat catches the mice successfully even though running around should be a problem considering it's weight and everything.

And the loli captain is saved which means that the ship is back to normal and should be getting back for repairs and stuff. Which means that the blonde German bishoujo will have to leave.

    Pretty good episode overall.

Of course, everyone heartwarmingly bands together to help the best girl get her shipmates back. Interestingly to finally get to see them come face to face and take on infected people. Macchi is of course full of Kobayashi Yuu-voiced badassness, though Marikouji gets to be pretty awesome too. Best part of the whole sequence was Minami injecting one girl in the ass. Wherever's fine. :D

Some nice genuinely emotional moments with Koko at the end. Hits her hard immediately after she realizes her drama watching companion is leaving. Hopefully it won't be too long until Mina can see them all again. This episode was heavy on the shipping in a number of ways.

    Episode 9

    Solving the problem from within.

The Harekaze is up against another rogue ship and it's the Spee, the ship Mina escaped from when her crewmates became brainwashed. They tried to attack a portion of the ship that would cripple the ship, but the Spee moved in an unexpected pattern. So the plan is to have the Harekaze draw its attention, while a small group of girls led by Mina board the Spee to squirt them with seawater, and then have Minami inject her vaccine. The plan works, and Mina got Thea back to normal with a hug. Then the crewmates of the ships have a party as Mina goes back to the Spee.

That sure was a nice moment there at the end seeing those girls of the Harekaze and the Spee getting along so well, all made possible thanks to Mina. That was quite a nice scene there with Mina giving Thea her captain's hat back all going to show that everybody is a friend. But now, the Harekaze will be sitting ducks for awhile as their ship was badly damaged in the fight. There's still the Musashi, and the matter of what's going on that led to these rats getting on board the ships.

    Re: Episode 8

Disappointment. I thought that at least they would make things out that someone is plotting against the Bloomers and is using these infected rats. But it's turns out that due to various circumstances, a sunken ship with these experimental rodents surfaced and spread the virus. Someone conspiring against the Bloomers would have been much more interesting. This is kinda boring.

So the Harekaze comes across the missing Hiei which is also infected with those rodents and is headed towards a residential area which is obviously not good. And with the Harekaze the only ship in the vicinity and the Bloomers taking too long to come, Misaki decides to take on the Hiei. The plan is to lure the Hiei away and immobilize it. And Misaki acts like a captain here and gets the approval of the whole crew which forces the Shiro fan to give up as even Shiro had accepted Misaki.

And that butt groping. Shiro has a weird sister lol. Misaki was probably disappointed that it wasn't her butt which was groped. Shiro probably didn't want anyone else to get the groping treatment from her onee-san – only her butt can be groped by her sister. Touching anyone else's butt is forbidden.
