    Episode 4

    Castle go boom.

Kazuma hits it big having harvested a lot of cabbages, while Aqua's terrible luck only netted her worthless heads of lettuce. As the days roll onward, Megumin goes practicing her explosion magic on an abandoned castle, which had just become the home of one of the Demon King's generals, the dullahan. He attacks the castle and places a curse on Megumin, but Darkness takes it instead, and as it turns out that's a curse that's easy for Aqua to lift.

That's another funny episode there, and not only are crazy things happening with this party of incompetent adventurers, but it appears that the villains are just as incompetent. The dullahan should have stepped up sooner seeing that everybody thought that the place was abandoned, but of course he just took it in the, uh, head and then used a curse that only a party as incompetent as this one would see as a threat.

I would've expected Kazuma to question Megumin's choice to destroy a perfectly nice castle, but I knew there had to be something going on with it when he didn't. That was a pretty good gag. And it actually connects to the plot, kind of.

Well as far as Dullahans go, Celty is way cuter than this guy. But he actually still has possession of his head, so... Anyhoo, another funny eppie. It was unexpected to see Aqua actually be very useful for once. Poor old Darkness was denied her beautiful dream of being held prisoner in a castle by an evil Devil King leader where she'd be "forced" into all kinds of perversions.

Celty is also way smarter than this guy .

Anyway whether you want to classify this series as a pastoral or not, it's still very awesome and fun to watch.

Oh, such a show. Loved Megumin's (rather, Rie Takahashi's) different sounds after unleashing each explosion. Loved Darkness's taking advantage of her curse to feed her desires. Loved the touch of the cherubs that lifted said curse. Loved that Megumin and Kazuma's aims for heroism fall flat in such perfect keeping with this show. Loved that the headless horseman had a headless horse, by the way.

Keep forgetting to say, but favorite ED (and probably OP/ED combo) of the season. I'll never tire of that one, neatly riffing on the tilt shift video technique (a lot of that in live action today is done post; I'm curious how much is and is not CG in the sequence here), and just a lovely Celtic sort of song.

Dullahan having that 'wtf?' moment because of Darkness's perversion was quite hilarious. Loved how he was trembling before her masochistic lust. The entire sequence thereafter, especially with the cherubs lifting the curse was the cherry on top. :D

Ditto. My favorites as well. Oddly enough the ED's animation reminds me of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood's ending sequence, with the miniature/DOF imagery to it. I think I remember seeing another anime using this technique, but I can't remember which one.

I don't think I've seen it anywhere else in anime, myself. But the most notable example of it nowadays is Colbert's Late Show opening.

That's pretty awesome. Never did catch much of Colbert, even before he moved to The Late Show, but that's just too neat. I might've confused seeing this applied to another live action sequence, even possibly mixing it up with The Sims.

Takahashi has been one of the standouts of the voice cast to me. Gotten to be a rather endearing take on the quirky chuunibyou girl shtick, and even more so with this episode. I might be more into this one than even Uchida Maaya's usuals. But it's a rather interesting cast all around. Amamiya shows her range yet again as Aqua is not a type I've heard often from her. Kayano, as I've noted before, gets to do something different here too. And Fukushima makes for a good male comedy lead.

Even the villains are idiots. It got serious at the end there, which was a bit unnerving, but Aqua just lifted the curse off of Darkness like nothing at all. And there was much rejoicing.

Let's go blow up this random castle up in the mountains on a daily basis. What could possibly go wrong? Lol Megumin turns this into a strategy when she hadn't thought through anything, like will the adventurers behind her play along or not? Aqua shows up to support Megumin but she isn't of much use. Darkness then takes the curse instead of Megumin and then confuses the Dullahan with her masochistic desires lol. And Aqua gives things a rather anticlimactic ending by lifting the curse just like that.

Lol Aqua and Megumin are traumatized by frogs and Darkness wants to experience that feeling of being in a frog's mouth and getting covered in slime. Liked Kazuma's straightforwardness in telling Aqua that they're just not Demon king killing material. And Aqua tried to blackmail him too lol.

Fun stuff here. Judging by the next episode preview, these lunatics are getting themselves into some trouble, again.

                          Episode 5

In many ways, that sword is cursed.

In desperate need of money only tough quests remaining, Aqua takes on a purification job in a cage. After the job is finished, she is escorted back to town still in the cage and she meets another adventurer she sent to this world in Kyouya, and he has a cursed sword only he could use. That sword was stolen and sold by Kazuma. And the Dullahan has returned demanding to know why Kazuma hasn't shown up at the castle.

That was another hilarious episode there, and it's nice to see Kazuma meeting another guy like him who died and got sent there, and Kyouya is not too pleased that the goddess is being treated like that. Those reactions sure are priceless. Now, let's see what kind of business the Dullahan has this time seeing that he wasn't around to see Aqua lift the curse placed on Darkness the last time around.

I like how the title being said in the eyecatch matches the mood of what just happened. Was funny getting it right in the middle of the alligator attack. :D

Kyouya's introduction was a lot of fun. He was pretty much living the dream, the exact kind of life Kazuma was hoping for. I just knew encountering Aqua and Kazuma's party was going to turn that all upside down in a hilarious way. He got his oh so powerful and awesome cursed sword stolen and pawned off. If it's anything like rare items in some RPG's, maybe for not much money at all (but for Kazuma anything is better than something he can't use... Hahah...)

Oh man, that fight! ROFLMAO!!! And his steal ability? Legendary! Feared by all women, except, of course, Aqua, who continues to provide as much evidence as a TV broadcast can be allowed to do, that she has no panties that can be stolen (as can be seen, when Aqua is literally up to her ass in alligators).

This show has been THE surprise of the season, and, boy am I glad to be watching.

Poor Kyouya. He's what's Kazuma could've been if he was a decent (or smart) person, but he gets vilified in this series that validates terrible people.

It will be interesting to see if the party runs into any more of the many that Aqua has sent on this mission. I'm sure there are all walks of life here.
