Aya Tachibana is a sixth-grader who frets and obsesses over friends, family, grades, and more. One day, she joins the "Tantei Team KZ" with four very idiosyncratic boys she met at cram school. There is the glib and attention-grabbing leader Kazuomi Wakatake, the mysterious "expert of personal relationships" Takakazu Kuroki, the smart and stoic math genius Kazunori Uesugi, and the sweet-hearted Kazuhiko Kozuka who is good at social matters and science. Aya finds her place among them as the "language expert." "Tantei Team KZ" gets involved in modern-day cases, and even if they bicker from time to time, they collaborate by pooling each of their talents and skills to solve these cases.

    Episode 1

So in these nine minutes, it's all introductions here as Aya forms a special team with four pretty-looking boys who all happen to be on the school's soccer team, and off the bat things don't start off well as Wakatake calls her a moving mailbox. She's the language expert of this group where each person is strong in one area, but not so much with others. And as it turns out they begin doing detective work finding a missing bike. That was pretty cute seeing Aya freaking out. So far, it's in the setup phase here and I'll see where things go from here in the next episode when actual detective stuff goes down.

      Re: Episode 1

Ah, I wasn't expecting this. Seems like a show targeted to young girls that's not about selling toys. Those are rarer these days. But apparently not a shoujo manga, but a children's novel (from the same imprint that had Kuromajo-san ga Tooru). This might touch on some themes that interest me a bit, so I'll watch some more, even if I'm not totally into it right now.

Seems very dull and I'm not sure where the appeal is supposed to lie. An unusual running length that made for strange pacing and stopping point as well. It doesn't even seem to get into what it's really about. I didn't expect to be watching this, so no surprise here.

          Re: Episode 1

You know, I think I can get behind this show. It's pretty slow right now as it's all just introductions to everyone, but even there, I can gather that the mysteries will probably serve as a backdrop for the story of Aya learning to make friends with these eccentric boys, and I'm down for that. Looking forward to seeing how this first mystery plays out.

            Episode 2

And now the mystery is on to find Wakatake's mountain bike. For starters, he was not supposed to be biking to cram school and he stands to lose his allowance if his parents found out about it. So it's off to work for Team KZ and each person has a role in this case, and being the language expert Aya's job is to write a letter to the thief. And then there's a robbery at the convenience store when Aya comes home. Could that person be connected with the bike thief in a way? That was a pretty solid way to set up this mystery in just nine minutes.

              Episode 3

So that convenience store robber mentioned at the end of the previous episode is believed to be the one responsible, and as it turns out he didn't steal it, but destroyed it by driving his green car and dragging the bike off its chain. So the investigation continues and from Team KZ's deductive reasoning, the culprit drove an imported car and is somewhere in the northern part of town. That was some nice thinking there, but now it's Aya's turn and while she's the language expert, she can't read anything not in Japanese. It will be interesting to see where this leads to.

                Episode 4

Aya simply needed to check a dictionary and that's how she was able to trace the culprit's location, all while Kuroki had the presence of mind to record the culprit's intentions and send it to the police. But Wakatake decided to tackle the criminal all by himself and everybody was also there to take that guy into custody. Talk about working together nicely as a team to outsmart the criminal. And with that, the first case of Team KZ is closed.

                  Episode 5

The new school year has started, and while three of the Team KZ boys are going to their first choice together, Aya is at her third choice, while Wakatake ends up in a public school. Aya sure is having a hard time adjusting to life at her school being the room leader and sitting next to a delinquent she was told to stay away from, but it turns out that he's a pretty helpful guy and is just lazy in class. And then Team KZ meets up at Wakatake's house for the first time in the new year. While there is no case here, that was a pretty solid way to transition from solving a case to Aya's new school life. It will be interesting to see what they do about Wakatake seeing that he's someone who is tough to predict.

Interesting to see Aya advance to middle school so soon in the series, and to a separate school from all of the boys at that. I have a feeling Sunahara is going to turn up their next case somehow, whether as a culprit or an innocent person suspected to be the culprit. Either way, curious to see what role he's going to have.

                      Episode 6

As it turns out, this mystery is all about how Wakatake ended up eating pork in his egg Hamburg steak instead of beef seeing that he's allergic to it. The company that produced it is owned by Sunahara's father, and thus suspicion surrounds him. There have been rumors that Aya's classmate is bad news seeing that he was a member of Team KZ who caused a lot of trouble, but it doesn't seem to be the truth that he truly is a bad person. Whatever ends up being the case, there's a lot that needs to be investigated here as to whether Sunahara's bad reputation is his doing or for being associated with bad people around him.

                        Episode 7

So the culprit responsible for why Wakatake ended up eating a beef and pork Hamburg steak is some truck driver who has a bad reputation, but as it turns out that Sunahara Meats is in a dire financial situation that they ended up hiring whoever they could find. Seeing that his father's company is in debt that it's no wonder Kakeru got his delinquent reputation. At the very least, they have a strong idea of who is responsible, but having operations suspended means the end of this company and Aya doesn't want that to happen. So now that this is solved, the next step is to figure out what Kakeru's deal is and how to help him out now that the reason behind his delinquent behavior is apparently revealed.

                          Episode 8

And the reason why Kakeru is a delinquent is revealed as that driver was causing problems for this father, but for some reason he refuses to fire him when it is clear that he needed to be punished. So after making friends with Aya, he decides that he needed to speak his mind with his father and in the end he decided to shut down the company and move away. The end result was pretty disheartening there, but Kakeru did take action knowing full well that he won't put up with something that should have been dealt with already seeing that his father just brushed everything under the rug. With that, this case has been solved, and the next case is about Uesugi's falling grades.

                            Episode 9

Seeing that she is in a club of jocks that Aya is starting to work out by going on a jog every morning. The next case involves figuring out how Uesugi did so poorly on the latest math exam, and normally he is one of the top students in the subject. Seeing how unusual it is for him to bomb in math that Aya took it upon herself to get to the bottom of things. While she was jogging, she finds some strange guy dumping garbage in somebody's backyard, and that could be connected to this case. That's a rather interesting connection, and it could very well be that Uesugi was distracted by that or something else related to it.

So this guy Takane has been the root of so many problems, not just with littering, but with other nuances such as riding his moped the wrong way and selling aluminum cans from trash sites. So it's off to get photo evidence of Takane doing bad things, and there's something in the house that Aya needs to figure out. There definitely is something going on and it could very well be the reason why Takane is doing all of these misdeeds.
