      Episode 7

      Divide and conquer.

The TCG is on, and Masamune's strategy is to fight one-on-one with Hotaru vs. Fujimon, Toru vs. Ichi, and Masamune vs. Midori. Toru thinks he has outsmarted Ichi, but she was just playing along in order gain the upper hand in a battle against snipers. And then there's Hotaru having a tough time against Fujimon having been backed into a corner as even while holding that heavy minigun he can run as fast as she can, but she comes up with the perfect counterattack by pushing the gun into the ground and then shoot him from behind. Except that she forgot to release the safety lock, but Fujimon is a good sport admitting defeat.

So with that, this battle continues into the next episode as Hoshishiro is down to just two, although Masamune and Toru are in trouble. That was just an intense battle there, but in the end Hotaru showed what she was made of. Hotaru made some rookie mistakes there not firing when she had the chance when she recklessly stumbled across the enemy a minute into the match, as well as forgetting to pull the safety trigger, but she got away seeing that the opponent was just as confused all while Fujimon shows how honorable he is, which is hardly the persona of somebody from the team that brutally beat up the female member at the last TGC.

It's not just a game anymore.

That was just brutal as Midori played dirty against Hotaru as he knows her secret, and uses that to make her a sitting duck for Ichi. You can't win them all, but that was just a humiliating defeat for Toy Gun Gun there. At least Masamune knows to not use that one-on-one strategy against Hoshishiro again seeing that Midori is hard to take down with just one gunner and that Midori won't tell anybody about Hotaru being a girl. Hotaru will have some soul searching coming up, and her friend Kanae will be the one who will try and get her back on her feet.

Something like this happens in Stella, but at least in this show, somebody else created the problem for the MC rather than it being a self-inflicted wound. It will be interesting to see what direction this show goes in seeing that Hotaru didn't take defeat very well. I had a feeling that they weren't going to win seeing that they are up against the now five time champions and that Hotaru is inexperienced at survival games.

          Episode 9

Winning is cool, losing is cool, quitting is uncool.

After suffering a humiliating defeat at TGC, Hotaru is back at school feeling totally down, and she tells her friend Kanae everything that just happened. She thinks about quitting survival games seeing that it's not something for a girl to do. But then she is challenged to a sprint, and Hotaru wins easily while Kanae keeps on stumbling. It turns out that the challenge was meant to serve a reminder to Hotaru that the only thing that's uncool is giving up as she said during gym class one day. Thus, she's as determined as to get better at survival games.

That is nicely done as Kanae was totally cool in sending her message to Hotaru about never giving up with that dirt on her face. And while she was showing how bad an athlete she is, she is capable of being really good seeing that she sprinted away pretty quickly after the challenge. Pretty much, Hotaru loves survival games and Kanae is letting her know that setbacks will happen, but keeping her cool is what matters the most. Now, as for the trio that defeated TGC, they work at the Hoshishiro Hospital (hence their team name) and they are not exactly on the same page when it comes to their work in the hospital.

            Episode 10

            Nothing but filler.

Hotaru is committed to telling the truth about being a girl, but before that happens during a yakiniku BBQ in Yukimura's apartment, Masamune kicks her off Toy Gun Gun as she was just there to be a fill-in member. So she tries to prove her worth by going over to Midori and challenging him to a duel, which takes place in a survival game maid cafe.

What a jerk Masamune is. As bad as Midori is, at the very least he's a much nicer guy off the battlefield than Masamune is. So of course, knowing that Hotaru is a girl, he is the perfect person for Hotaru to turn to in this situation. That survival game maid cafe sure is a great idea there, and I would have to think that Hotaru would be a much better player on Team Hoshishiro seeing that Masamune simply saw her as an extra body whereas Midori sees her as Hotaru. But Toy Gun Gun is where Hotaru wants to be in the end.

              Episode 11

              He's feeding his dark side.

Hotaru and Midori engage in a duel at the shooting range and while Midori dominates, Hotaru made the last shot. Back at home, Hotaru hears the whole story from Toru about what really happened, and as it turned out there was a lot more to the story than what he heard. First of all, Masamune was the one at fault for causing the female member to leave by violating the zombie rule and being so fixated on beating Midori. But the real reason why Masamune booted Hotaru was because of the second member whose love for survival games turned to hate. That said, Hotaru is determined to save Masamune through a challenge.

That was quite revealing there. I knew that something was way off about Masamune and Midori seeing that Midori is a much better person, all while Masamune is such a jerk for the way he thinks about Hotaru, but I didn't think it was this problematic. Masamune's pride was hurt really badly at TGC, and he overreacted seeing that he's all worried about his image as a host. I don't blame those two people for quitting seeing that Masamune is a tough person to work with, but Hotaru is willing to put up with him and do whatever it takes to bring him back to his senses. Compared to Stella, the roles are reversed as the person who needs saving this time is on the team while the one to do the saving is a former member rather than the other way around. One more episode to go.

                Episode 12 (Finale)

He's never gonna keep her down.

Hotaru has challenged Masamune to a one-on-one survival game duel, and she gets beaten. But she challenges him again, and again, and she still keeps on losing. But through these defeats, Masamune finally takes things much more to heart seeing that he's like that towards Midori. So in one final challenge, Hotaru gets into his mind and uses that to finally break through and score a win against Masamune. With that, Masamune must say that Hotaru is invited to join Toy Gun Gun, and now the team is back together with Masamune's outlook having changed for the better.

That was a nicely done battle there at the end all to show that Masamune took survival games the wrong way all this time. This is just like in Stella, although it was the MC in that show that was the source of the problems and at one point she left the team. In any case, it's nice to see that the team is back together and all of their emotional baggage was sorted out through that duel. While Hotaru didn't reveal that she was a girl, Masamune did get that sensation.

Overall, this show is fun to watch at times, and boring at other times. This inconsistency is the biggest problem the show has seeing that it was very hard for me to get engaged with this show during the boring times. I did enjoy the twists where I was to believe that Midori is the one responsible for this whole mess, but as it turns out the fault lies completely with Masamune, as well as the survival game action. While this show takes a lot of situations and concepts from Stella, they are far superior in this show than in Stella, and that made for an enjoyable show. At the same time, it had some major issues with the inconsistency in quality, and the pacing is another thing that was bad seeing that I felt the TGC stuff lasted longer than it should have, while other parts were rushed.

                  Episode 13

These clothes aren't made for survival games.

Toy Gun Gun participates in the TCC competition, and as it turns out it's a survival game cosplay tournament where all the players are wearing costumes. Masamune is a policewoman and Yukimura is a maid, and while it's hard to play in those outfits, that's nothing compared to Hotaru wearing a panda suit. Hoshishiro is also in it with Ichi a princess, Fujimon a prince, and Midori a horseman. When the dusk settles, Midori helps Hotaru reach the goal.

That was pretty funny to see those guys not only looking silly, but acting silly as well, especially with Hotaru getting stuck in the bamboo. And of course seeing that Toru is an aspiring adult mangaka, all of those servicey shots of Masamune sure has his blood boiling. Not bad for an OVA seeing that after all, survival games are supposed to be all about having fun.
