Tatsumiyajima is the central island in the middle of a small cluster of islands, in a sleepy backwater of the Japanese isles. Not much happens there, and the island's young people go to school knowing that their lives are likely to remain peaceful and undisturbed. Or so they have been taught... but the truth is different. The fate of mankind is on the line, and Tatsumiyajima is the last line of defense against a hostile and incomprehensible enemy. At the center of it all, fighting for Humanity's continued existence, is the giant robot Fafner, the dragon that guards this final treasure of mankind. Fafner Exodus will be set 2 years after the first attacks of the Festums.

    Episode 1

    You have visitors.

All is peaceful at Tatsumiyajima, but the same can't be said in Hawaii as it's now a war-torn wasteland after the appearance of an oversized Festum. And now, one of the generals from that battle in Hawaii is coming over to the island with a girl, and everybody is on high alert not exactly sure what his intentions are, so the Fafner pilots are ready to engage.

Having just I watched the first season and movie last month in preparation for this sequel that this show is fresh in my mind, although there was a lot I didn't understand about it. The characters look different seeing that it has been ten years since the original series aired. Not a whole lot was going on in this episode after the scene cuts to Tatsumiyajima, but things are about to get dicey with a visitor coming, and it remains to be seen what this visitor is all about.

      Re: Fafner: Exodus Discussion Thread

Buckeye, you might want to fix the MAL & Crunchyroll links in your root post as they both go to listings for KanColle & not Fafner: Exodus.

      EDIT: Thanks!

        Re: Episode 1

Sui Kaburagi is a great character, hope he does more than just comics. Nishio is good too, though since I had only watched the dub I never knew he was played by Yuki Kaji. At least he gets nice speaking lines now.

Otherwise glad to see Soushi and Kazuki again, its been so long. Hopefully he wont stay working at a coffee shop for the anime

I like how it is still so intense even after two years. Thought everything would have gone all peaceful but Im glad thats not the case. This needs to resolve it, though I dont think thirteen episodes is enough?

Track at the end of the episode is the best. Visuals looked like they got an increase compared to the movie and to the first season.

          Episode 2

          Here comes a new hope.

It's back to the battlefield as this Festum can multiply, but its cores cannot, so once that core was smashed the day was saved. As for that visitor, Emery, she can communicate with the Mir just like Miwa, and her family was assimilated to stop a slaughter. Then comes someone named Jonathan to ask Kazuki for to help out once again. Emery and Miwa sure get along with each other, and it remains to be seen how this plays out. There's still a lot I don't quite understand seeing that the first season aired so long ago and even so it wasn't so easy to understand, but certainly there's something big going down.

So from the look of things, Jonathan is Mitsuhiro's son. As a refresher from the first season, Mitsuhiro is Chizuru's ex-wife and the father of Maya and Yumiko. Yumiko married the late Michio and Miwa is their daughter. So it looks like Jonathan is Maya's half-brother and it remains to be seen what role he plays.

            Episode 3

Once a human, now a liquid computer.

As expected, Jonathan is Maya's half-brother (and he's actually a year younger) as they are born from the same father, but his mother is someone other than Chizuru. How Tsubaki ended up being the island's Mir is explained while Emery goes to communicate whit her and as it turns out her mother Saya was assimilated while she was pregnant. And then there's the core that could possibly power a strong army of Fafners, but it's pretty dangerous for anything to touch seeing how those machines got crystallized. Pretty much, it's all setup here without any action, and it will be interesting to see how things turn out.

              Episode 4

              Passing the torch.

This episode introduces three new recruits who succeed Kazuki's group in Mimika, Leo, and Sui, who are given Fafners named after Shinto gods by request from Canon. Just like what happened in the first season, Fumihiko went to see the parents to let them know that they are joining the fight. Pretty much, this is more setup seeing that there hasn't been much action and I think that this is the calm leading into the storm. Seeing how there are too many new characters to keep track of that it's nice to know some of them really well before going into action. It will be interesting to see what happens next now that new pilots are carrying the duty.

                Episode 5

                One more call to duty.

After not seeing a ton of action so far this season, here comes a Festum invasion, and these adversaries know the island's weakness but the new pilots are able to defend the island without too much trouble. And now, Kazuki is seeing Maya off as she is called into action, all while Emery explains that her family is a part of Mir. This season has been quite slow to develop, but now there are death flags being raised all around, all while a lot of chaos is about to begin. It remains to be seen just what will become of Maya seeing that she's being called back into action.

                  Episode 6

Back into the Fafner they go.

Miwa is off to Srinagar to converse with the Mir there, while back at home Tsubaki is out of her tank and this isn't the same girl as from the first season. Miwa is seeing ghosts at the base, and then a powerful Festum has just arrived. And now, Kazuki and Soshi are getting back out to fight even though they are getting quite close to the end of their lines. That's some pretty good setup there for a huge battle to go down next time. It will be interesting to see how Kazuki and Soshi handle things seeing that they wearing out.

                    Episode 7

They are assimilated with great new powers.

The Festums invade, and Miwa isn't quite right after the shock of seeing Yumiko buried in the rubble, well at least that's what she thought she saw as Yumiko is alive. The Fafners are just getting beaten to a pulp, especially Seri in the Mark Zwolf, but they awaken with new powers as something of Festum origin has entered the cores and the pilots use that to exterminate the Festums. These kids are all about peace, and now they have a new power that will hopefully bring that, but of course there's always a caveat.

                      Episode 8

They have dreams for world peace.

After that last battle, the pilots are resting up getting ready for the next operation. The Tsubaki clone has been given the name of Orihime, and Kazuki and Soshi are now deploying. Since it's going to take quite awhile to arrive in that war zone that they are just going to sleep while auto-pilot gets them there. And now there's big trouble with the Festums toppling that tower. This is just some setup, but now things are about to get really dicey as the Festums backing everybody into a corner with that attack.

                        Episode 9

                        From assimilated to assimilator.

A diablo-type Festum is laying waste as the pilots are quickly getting assimilated, and all hope seems lost seeing that Maya was about to kill a pilot who is almost assimilated. But just in the nick of time comes Kazuki to save the day with the ultimate Fafner that not only can undo assimilation, but to also assimilate Festums. Half of the squad is dead when all is said and done, but Kazuki saved a lot of pilots and gave a huge morale boost. After showing nothing but buildup episodes, things have taken form with this episode that's easily the best of the season so far with some nice action that I have come to expect.

                          Episode 10

                          Let the exodus begin.

Kazuki saves the day, but that Festum's core just ran away so that means more Festum attacks are coming to Srinagar. Seeing that contacting help would mean drawing Festums that come to the scene quicker than help could that they decided that a mass migration to Bangladesh to establish their Mir there is the best option. So the Exodus part of the season's title comes into play here with the citizens of the city in Northern India make the trek to a new land. This episode builds off the action and Kazuki's new power from the last episode very nicely to set things into motion.

                            They can't be contained.

Now that the exodus is in full swing, all is quiet back at the island as the new pilots are going to training camp to improve their piloting techniques. But then there's trouble as the Festum powers are activating on their own with Mimika forming a barrier and Leo suddenly teleporting. Then the problems become more widespread at the bathhouse with one pilot have a hole carved through his chest, while others are crystallizing. Just when it looked like these pilots got the power to turn the tide in battle, there's big trouble going on seeing that those powers are out of control, and now they have a big problem at hand. It will be interesting to see just what their plan of action is in response to this.

And the whole gang is back in action.

So the assimilation phenomenon that the pilots are experiencing back on the island is just the first of many problems to come as the Azazel-type Festums are back to cause more destruction. Akira was just totally loses it there after failing to protect civilians in the Festum's line of fire. So now that the situation has become quite dire that Canon and Sakura have been called to pilot the Fafners once more. I figured that Canon and Sakura would eventually go back into Fafner at some point, and things have quickly escalated into a crisis situation. One more episode left to go before the show goes on break.
