Can anyone recommend Ajin? Any particular strengths or weaknesses?

Ajin is an odd one for me. I hate the way it looks! It's got that 3D cel-shaded faux 2-D look that harks back to Appleseed and Vexille, although in this case the direct comparison should be made to Knights of Sidonia. Sidonia got away with it thanks to its space setting, and it's alien antagonists making it easier to suspend disbelief, but Ajin is set in the 'real' world, and it's harder to compensate for characters that can't really emote due to the limitations in the CG animation.

But balance this against an excellent story. It's proper Netflix binge-watch worthy, really has that one-episode more compulsiveness to it, and in the end, that overrode my misgivings about the animation.

I'll second Just passing Through. Ajin's 3D look does take some getting used to but it has a great story with interesting characters who are very grey. I thought the first season was great and I was lukewarm on the second season.

If you can't stand the Polygon Pictures 3D animation, you could read the manga version instead. There's also a live action movie version out there that I thought was pretty good. Although unfortunately it hasn't been officially licensed in English (fansubs do exist).
