As a result of myself getting into the Densha De Go games, I noticed something rather interesting about some trains in Japan: They use musical horns. The first train I noticed this on was the 223 series, which is in several of the games. The real train's musical horn can be heard in this video. Quite a pleasant noise if you ask me.

The Meitetsu trains in Nagoya also have musical horns, in fact nearly all of them do. They seem to use them when entering/exiting stations, and the tone sounds like the NBC chimes.

I think these musical horns make the trains of Japan quite unique, but the driving question is: Would you want to hear this if your car was stalled on a railroad crossing and the gates are down?
