Anime Watched in 2018

So as always, great characters always come about, so there are quite a lot to choose from. Usual procedures apply.

Here is the eligibility criteria for the categories:
Female Characters: Simlucasts only (all entries with an asterisk), one character per series, characters in sequels must debut sometime in 2018.
Male Characters: Simlucasts only (all entries with an asterisk), one character per series, character in sequels must debut sometime in 2018.
Shows for Moe: Simulcasts only (all entries with an asterisk)
Cast Lists: Simulcasts only (all entries with an asterisk), new series only.

Just like last year, the character must debut sometime in 2018 in order to be eligible for this list. However, for this purpose, remakes are treated just like a new series. So characters like Eren Jaeger (Attack on Titan) and Froppy (My Hero Academia) were previously featured, and as such are ineligible for this list. Like always, there's an honorable mention spot for shows that I opted not to watch after sampling it as there were certainly some positive aspects from these shows that are worth mentioning. So with that, top 10 characters time.

Top 10 Female Characters
1. Mai Sakurajima, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
2. Nadeshiko Kagamihara, Laid-Back Camp
3. Zero-Two, Darling in the FranXX
4. Asirpa, Golden Kamuy
5. Shirase Kobuchizawa, A Place Further Than the Universe
6. Violet Evergarden, Violet Evergarden
7. LLENN, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online
8. Sophie Twilight, Ms. Vampire Who Lives in My Neighborhood
9. Suzuha Amane, Steins;Gate 0
10. Ai Yashajin, The Ryuo's Work is Never Done!
Honorable Mention: Sarah, Gundam Build Divers

Never was it so obvious who the top girl this year was, and that's Mai, the actress and imaginary bunny girl. There's just so much to like about her as she's cute, very responsible, extremely gutsy, and best of all she's there to set people straight. Next is Nadeshiko, and she's easily the cutest girl of the year. As if her pink hair and klutzy attitude weren't adorable enough, she's someone who easily makes friends with others. Zero-Twi is just full of guts and no question she's what kept the cast in that show together seeing that many wouldn't even think about getting near her because of her demon blood going to show that characters are to be judged not by where they came from, but what they can do for this team, and boy did she do quite a lot. Asirpa is simply a great girl who is always alert and is a capable hunter herself. Shirase's character growth is just a sight to behold, and her dedication and persistence definitely earns her a spot here. Violet is another character much like Shirase, except with much worse circumstances to overcome. It's a shame that such a beauty was wasted on the battlefield, but even so she's making the best of her situation. LLENN, she's cute, but she's a whole lot more than that. Sophie is the cutest vampire you can find out there. Suzuha really shined this incarnation of Steins;Gate that was marred by Kurisu's absence. Lastly, there's the other Ai as she's cute and totally dedicated to shogi, as well as the bond she developed with the MC.

Top 10 Male Characters
1. Rimuru Tempest, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
2. Saichi Sugimoto, Golden Kamuy
3. Diablo, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord
4. Sakuta Azusagawa, Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
5. Theo Cornaro, Record of Grancrest War
6. Eugeo, Sword Art Online: Alicization
7. Yang Wei, Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These
8. Romio Inuzuka, Boarding School Juliet
9. Narumi Kato, Karakuri Circus
10. Ash Lynx, Banana Fish
Honorable Mention: Jinzaburo Kuchii, Angolmois

While Rimuru is technically genderless, he's classified as a guy in my book seeing that he was a guy in his previous life. He totally made this show what it was as not only is he overpowered, but he's always there to make things go right. Sugimoto, this guy is just nuts in the way he keeps surviving, and that puts him on the list of great MCs. Diablo, he's overpowered but with a caveat in that while his player is that way, the person playing him is a weakling, and I like how this guy tries to play things straight rather than Gary Stuing his way all the time. Sakuta, he's another down-to-earth guy who is all about helping others, and help he does. Theo is one of the best thinkers out there as seeing his brilliant military tactics in action is a real treat. And then there's Eugeo picking up the slack nicely this season seeing that Kirito is ineligible for this list. And the rest are all guys who have great devotion to making things right in a world that's wrong.

Top 10 Shows for Moe
1. Laid-Back Camp
2. Encouragement of Climb season 3
3. Ms. Vampire Who Lives in My Neighborhood
4. Umamusume: Pretty Derby
5. Mitsuboshi Colors
6. The Ryuo's Work is Never Done
7. Hakumei and Mikochi
8. Revue Starlight
9. Slow Start
10. Dropkick on My Devil!
Honorable Mention: Comic Girls

With cute girls, there was no doubt that Laid-Back camp is tops on the moe list, going toe-to-toe with Encouragement of Climb, which is also about cute girls in the great outdoors. Ms. Vampire has really cute girls and even cuter vampires that would make anybody's day. Umamusume has a great story to go along with the girls who are just cute with those horse-like qualities to them. Mitsuboshi Colors, there's no need to think about it any further. Ryuo's Work, the two lead girls are very cute and totally girls that are worth rooting for. And the rest are girl-heavy casts that do wonders on those who love these kinds of shows.

Top 10 Cast Lists
1. Laid-Back Camp
2. My Hero Academia season 3
3. Violet Evergarden
4. A Place Further Than the Universe
5. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
6. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
7. Food Wars! The Third Plate
8. Hi Score Girl
9. Cells at Work
10. Iroduku: The World in Colors
Honorable Mention: Release the Spyce

Laid-Back Camp claims the top spot once again as the girls are just so cute, and they are just there to have a good time without any antagonism going on. MHA season 2 took the top honors last year, and this season it continues to deliver the goods with great characters. Violet Evergarden is just a character development gold mine, all while Violet herself singlehandedly gets this show on this list. The girls of A Place Further Than the Universe all grow quite a lot there, and they are pretty adventurous and great friends. Bunny Girl Senpai has lots of great characters with Sakuta, Kaede, Futaba, and of course Mai leading the way to make this show one of the best of the year. Food Wars continues to deliver on the characters, Hi Score Girl has characters that change for the better with video games, Cells at Work is a brilliant depiction of the human body, and lastly Iroduku is all about supporting each other to become better people, and having such a great circle of friends is why this takes the last spot on the list. Lastly, there's Release the Spyce as the girls sure do operate pretty well as a team.
