Anime Watched in 2017

Next on my end-of-2017 evaluations are the characters. Yeah, I have been dragging this, but this one I had a really tough time coming up with my lists. In the interest of time, I'll just explain my top choices and not go through all ten in every list.

Here is the eligibility criteria for the categories:
Female Characters: Simlucasts only (all entries with an asterisk), one character per series, characters in sequels must debut sometime in 2017.
Male Characters: Simlucasts only (all entries with an asterisk), one character per series, character in sequels must debut sometime in 2017.
Shows for Moe: Simulcasts only (all entries with an asterisk)
Cast Lists: Simulcasts only (all entries with an asterisk), new series only.

I decided to make a change this year for the top male and female characters in that now, the characters must debut sometime in 2017 in order to be eligible. So that means sequel characters like Soma Yukihira and Ochaco Uraraka are not eligible because they had already appeared prior to 2017, and thus will be excluded. However, new characters in sequels like Rindou Kobayashi (Food Wars) and Momiji Mochizuki (New Game) are eligible, as well as all characters in reboots and side-stories like Kino (Kino's Journey) and Aiz (Sword Oratoria) are eligible. Alright, rnough of that as I'm onto the top characters of 2017.

Top 10 Female Characters
1. Yumeko Jabami, Kakegurui
2. Chise Hatori, The Ancient Magus' Bride
3. Tanya Degurechaff, Saga of Tanya the Evil
4. Nanachi, Made in Abyss
5. Kaban, Kemono Friends
6. Kanna Kamui, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
7. AnchoR, Clockwork Planet
8. Chise, Princess Principal
9. Moriko Morioka, Recovery of an MMO Junkie
10. Yoshino Koharu, Sakura Quest
Honorable Mention: Disciplinary Committee President, Aho Girl

With this new rule in place that a number of characters don't meet it like Ocacho Uraraka, Utaha Kasumigaoka, and Hinata Kawamoto as those girls really made their shows go. Anyway, there was no question who the top new girl is in 2017, and that is Yumeko. She has it all as she's cute and her gambling is a sight to behold, not to mention she's a wrecking ball in a great way. Then there's Chise, who grows quite a lot throughout the series, and I really like her guts and self-sacrifice. Then there's Tanya, and she's one of the best villains out there, who just happens to be the MC. She may be evil, but she's somebody that deserves a lot of admiration. Nanachi is a cute and helpful rabbit. And then there's Kaban, who is a smart girl and her resourcefulness means a lot in this show.

Top 10 Male Characters
1. Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, Classroom of the Elite
2. Elias Ainsworth, The Ancient Magus' Bride
3. Heine Wittenstein, The Royal Tutor
4. Tetsuo Takanashi, Interviews with Monster Girls
5. Tughril Mahmut, Altair: A Record of Battles
6. Sieg, Fate/Apocrypha
7. Tasuku Uehara, Gamers!
8. Willem Kmetsch, WorldEnd
9. Victor Frankenstein, Code:Realize
10. Touya Mochizuki, In Another World With My Smartphone
Honorable Mention: Yushi Inaba, Elegant Yokai Apartment Life

Finding the top guys is tough for a different reason as there just weren't that many who stood out, at least with the new restrictions in place. Nevertheless, Ayanokoji ends up on top as he is a player and one who is always crafting out his plan of attack and pulling it off. Elias can get moody, but when he's not, he's the most helpful guy out there. Then there's Heine, and he totally makes the show go as the tutor for those princes. Takanashi-sensei is quite a pal there making friends with the monster girls and helping them live fulfulling high school lives. Then there's Mahmut, and his mind determination to bring peace and justice to the world is a sight to behold.

Top 10 Shows for Moe
1. New Game!!
2. Princess Principal
3. Himouto! Umaru-chan R
4. Girls' Last Tour
5. WorldEnd
6. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
7. Blend S
8. Konohana Kitan
9. Gabriel Dropout
10. Kemono Friends
Honorable Mention: Minami Kamakura High School Cycling Club

It was another tough decision to make, but in the end I went with New Game!! since that show had a combination of cute girls and a great story, much more so than the other shows on the list, though it was a toss-up between that and Princess Principal.

Top 10 Cast Lists
1. My Hero Academia season 2
2. Food Wars! The Third Plate
3. Konosuba season 2
4. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
5. In an Another World With My Smartphone
6. Sakura Quest
7. Princess Principal
8. Kakegurui
9. WorldEnd
10. Himouto! Umaru-chan R
Honorable Mention: Land of the Lustrous

Without a doubt, My Hero Academia has the best cast list, and this season puts them on display in quite a big way giving everybody a moment to shine with the exam arc. With characters like Deku, Ochaco, Todoroki, and Froppy that there's no question this show has it all. And once more, Soma helps make Food Wars! great, while the new characters add to the greatness. And then there's Konosuba where the characters just stand out in a big way. Dragon Maid is amazing, and KyoAni's high-quality animation makes it all the better. And while the story for Smartphone is trash, the characters are the one redeeming quality this show has as they are great. And then the rest, they all have lots of likable characters in them.
